Orienteering began in Scandinavia in the nineteenth century.
First, it was a military training. Then, in 1919 orienteering was born as a
competitive sport in Sweden. Ernst Killander can be called the father of
orienteering. Later, in the early tirites a new compass was invented. It was
more precise and faster to use. The Kjellstrom brothers were responsible for
this new compass. They won several individual championships.
